A heartfelt thank you to all the players, sponsors, staff, and volunteers who made our Annual Golf Tournament a hole-in-one success! This year, we teed off with a full field of golfers and raised over $35,000 to support Clinic with a Heart’s mission—because everyone’s health matters.

8 Power Foods to Take Advantage Of

‘Tis the season of… eating. The winter holidays are among us, which means lots of family get-togethers and lots of food. And of course, all of that eating tends to build up!

But, some foods don’t add up that much. In fact, they’re so packed full of nutrients for our bodies that they’ve been deemed “power foods.” This holiday season, try incorporating some of these healthy treats into your life to balance out the rich holiday feasts. Check out these top eight power foods you need to take advantage of.

1. Apples.

They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away, and with good reason! Apples are high in fiber, vitamin C and antioxidants, which really packs a nutritious punch. Apples are also very filling, so next time you’re tempted to reach for that bag of chips, try a Granny Smith instead.

2. Potatoes.

While french fries might not be the healthiest of choices, natural potatoes are actually super powerful. They’re loaded with potassium and a variety of nutrients, including vitamin C. This season, try some naturally cooked potatoes, either homemade or at a local restaurant.

3. Spinach.

Popeye wasn’t lying about his spinach. The leafy green vegetable is high in vitamin K, calcium and magnesium, which helps slow the breakdown of bones. It also contains folate, a B vitamin which prevents birth defects in pregnant mothers.

4. Dark chocolate.

If you happen to have a sweet tooth, dark chocolate is the way to go! It’s loaded with powerful antioxidants like fiber and magnesium which help reduce the stress hormone cortisol and lower your risk for depression, obesity, heart disease and more.

5. Almonds.

Down on energy? A couple almonds should perk you right up! This powerful little nut is full of vitamin E, antioxidants, magnesium and fiber. Studies have also shown that almonds can help you lose weight and boost your metabolic health.

6. Broccoli.

Broccoli is one little vegetable that tastes delicious both cooked and raw. It provides an excellent source of fiber, vitamin K and vitamin C. Comparatively speaking to other vegetables, it also has a significant amount of protein.

7. Chicken breast.

If you’re a big fan of meat, try keeping it healthy this holiday season with some tasty chicken breast. The meat is low in fat and calories, but high in protein and nutrients, which may be a healthier alternative to some other choices.

8. Salmon.

If land animals aren’t your thing, try the popular—and delicious—salmon. This oily fish not only tastes great, but it’s high in nutrients, including protein and Omega-3 fatty acids. It even contains vitamin D. Nothing fishy about that!

This holiday season, stay ahead of your healthy new year goals by trying some of these delicious power foods. Not only will your taste buds thank you, but your body will too.
